The UPLB Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) spearheaded the webinar entitled, “Ethics in the Workplace” on September 15, 2023, which was attended by over 388 Faculty, REPS, and Admin participants across various units of UPLB.
The commencement of the webinar was hosted by Administrative Officer IV Michelle S. Montiel-De Leon of HRDO. It was given a head start by the Administrative Officer IV and PCSD Section Chief, Rosalyn Mabel M. Jimera, with its opening remarks that highlighted how relevant the webinar is. “It will remind us of our values that are needed to be exhibited as government servants,” she said.
An encouraging message was also delivered by the Vice Chancellor for Administration Rolando T. Bello, as he pointed out the importance of work ethics and how it should be used as a compass that would guide people on their journey towards excellence.
To promote a more conducive and productive working environment, HRDO Supervising Administrative Officer Ricardo Amiel V. Reveche, the resource person for the webinar, discussed the moral standards that not only influence how employees behave but also lay the groundwork for interactions with clients, and the community they are publicly serving.
By building a strong work ethic, Reveche emphasized the various qualities of a good work ethic, such as reliability, productivity, ownership and autonomy, collaboration, and team support, that an ideal public servant must embody. He also tackled various strategies that would help an individual develop good work ethic, including following leaders and mentors, properly prioritizing tasks, proper time management, using effective communication, and developing self-discipline. The discussion also highlights ethical work policies, including RA 6713, RA 11032, RA 9485, and the 2017 Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service, to reiterate employee responsibilities.
The participants took part in the question-and-answer portion with Reveche as the resource speaker and Jimera as the moderator.
Assistant to the Vice Chancellor Jennifer Marie S. Amparo brings the webinar to an end as she highlighted the importance of the concept of “ethical congruence,” which tackles the intention to do good but is usually hindered by the ways people circumvent the rules to satisfy their own needs. This is why work ethics are highly encouraged to be observed by the employees.
