In line with the Civil Service Commission’s approval of the Merit Selection Plan (MSP) of the University of the Philippines System (UP System) last April 2023, the UPLB Human Resources Development Office (UPLB HRDO) spearheaded the MSP Orientation on 25 May 2023 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN with over 250 participants.
The program started with HRDO Director Dr. Roderick C. Javar’s opening remarks. He expressed his warm regards to the panelists and participants and discussed the importance of the MSP. Vice Chancellor Rolando T. Bello from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration also gave a short message to the participants. He explained the need for having an MSP for a systematic method of selection for assessing and selecting employees on the basis of their competence and qualifications. Vice Bello also said that having an MSP will ensure the quality of employees since the UP System will objectively measure the applicants’ qualifications.
Mr. Vladimir G. Amatorio, Administrative Officer V and the Section Head of Recruitment, Selection, and Appointment, served as the resource person. He discussed the Criteria for Merit Selection Plan 2023, the Unit/Department/Division Composition, and the College/Office Composition. Mr. Amatorio also introduced the launch of the MSP Shortlist Template which will automate the process of computing the MSP Criteria.
After the discussion, the participants were given a chance to ask questions about the topic, with HRDO employees Ms. Mabel Jimera, Ms. Gilanda Parungao, and Mr. Ricardo Reveche as panelists. Mr. Vladimir G. Amatorio addressed the queries raised.
For the closing remarks, Mr. Ricardo V. Reveche commended the participants and the panelists for a job well done and for the successful MSP orientation. He also expressed that the HRDO will ensure to follow the EEOP and hire future employees without bias.
